In contrast to the Naked Cowboy, the Naked Cowgirl seemed so sad wandering around Times Square singing her sad songs. I wonder if she had just been through a break-up or something.

New York: Off duty
What does Cookie Monster do when he has to make a phone call? These off-duty characters could be scarring for children to ruin the mystery. They were easy to give up their identities as they walked through Times Square.
New York: One way to see the Statue of Liberty
Below is a photo in Times Square of a knock-off Statue of Liberty with a nice old man getting his photo taken with the "statue" and then paying the "statue" for his time. These street vendors are legal in New York - as you can see with the police in the background of this money exchange.

Before street food or food trucks were a yuppie favorite, they existed in New York with good old fashioned pretzels, knishes and dirty water dogs. They still exist today in Manhattan with their Sabrett Hot Dog umbrellas. Below is one I captured in the middle of Times Square madness.

Virginia: Pageantry at Mount Vernon
Entrance to George Washington's estate at Mount Vernon is free every year on President's day to celebrate George Washington's birthday. The day at Mount Vernon is filled with events and pageantry to annually celebrate America's first President's birthday. Below are some photos of the pageantry that went on in front of his house on the bowl to celebrate his birthday.

Virginia: Reaction to canons being fired
These photos shouldn't make me laugh. But they do. I can't help it. When the soldiers fired off shots and canons in celebration of George Washington's birthday, this young lad started freaking out crying in fear of these loud noises. His facial expressions really tell exactly what he is thinking and are so picturesque. Poor kid was so scared.

After the colonial soldiers got lined up on the Mt Vernon estate lawn, out of nowhere, they started running and shouting as they would if it was a battle. It shocked onlookers, and below are shots of the screaming soldiers.

Everyone loves an extra day off for Presidents Day to celebrate George Washington's birthday. This young lad's parents took him to Mount Vernon to watch the colonial soldiers celebrate his birthday on the estate. This lad wanted to be sandwiched between his parents, holding both of their hands amidst the crowd.
