Texas: Green Jays

The Green Jay is one of South Texas’s signature birds and one of the few species in the United States that feels distinctly tropical.  Green jays are highly social and intelligent, often traveling in small family groups through the woodlands of the Rio Grande Valley. They're active, curious birds that spend much of their time searching for insects, fruit, seeds, and small animals. Unlike many birds that stay hidden, green jays can be surprisingly bold and noisy, making them easier to spot than their bright colors might suggest.

The U.S. range of the green jays is limited to the southern tip of Texas, which is where I saw many of them when visiting the Rio Grande Valley.
