Tajikistan: Locals on donkeys

In the villages tucked into the Fann Mountains, it’s still completely normal to see people getting around on donkeys. They carry everything from groceries to building supplies along steep mountain trails where roads are limited or nonexistent. It’s one of the things that makes the region feel a world away  — simple, practical, and unchanged.  My son was able to trade his American granola bar with one of the boys below to be able to get a short ride on his donkey.
