Texas: Mexican Ground Squirrel

Mexican ground squirrels are common residents of South Texas brush country and grasslands. Unlike tree squirrels, they spend most of their time on the ground, often standing upright near their burrows to watch for danger. They're well adapted to the region's heat and dry conditions and can be surprisingly active during the cooler parts of the day.
