Alaska: Grizzly Bears

Below are several pretty cool photos with an incredible zoom lens of the closest I got to a Grizzly Bear (from safety) during my time in Alaska.  The second photo makes the bear seem very friendly, whereas in the third, you can see a hint of the bear's sharp teeth.

Alaska: Black Bears

Most of the bears I encountered in Alaska were Brown Bears or Grizzly Bears (Grizzlies are in fact Brown Bears that live in-land and not near the water).  The below bear is the only Black Bear that I spotted my entire time in Alaska, captured with an ultra-zoom lens.

Alaska: Kenai Peninsula

Throughout Alaska's Kenai Peninsula lies many small lakes and ponds amidst the stunning scenery.  Below are some of my favorite shots of the beautiful scenery of the Kenai Peninsula.

Alaska: Reflections in Kenai Fjords

Cruising through the Kenai Fjords on a clear summer day shows the amazing reflections of the mountainous and iceberg-clad terrain in the coastal waters.

Alaska: Driving in the Interior

Driving in Alaska's vast interior, we spotted moose on the side of the road.  Eager not to disturb them, we kept a distance and were able to capture the below shots of the unpredictable female moose.

Alaska: Huskies in Denali

The Huskies are put to work in the winter in Denali State Park, as all the roads are closed due to many feet of snow and arctic temperatures.  So, to get supplies, Huskies pull an itidarod to the train station in order for the park rangers to remain in the park.

Alaska: Bear Cubs in Denali

Below are the Grizzly Bear Cubs that we spotted with their protective mother bear in Denali State Park.

Alaska: Caribou in Denali

Caribou are one of the fairly harmless animals you could encounter in Denali State Park.  Below are photos of a handful of Caribou running through the park.

Alaska: Eielson Visitor Center in Denali

It took us half a day to get to Mile 66 in Denali State Park, where the Eielson Visitor Center is located.  From the visitor center, we went on several hikes, where the below are the stunning views from the park road.  Although it was took cloudy to see Mount McKinley, the views were still amazing and was incredibly peaceful and isolated.

Alaska: Grizzly Bears in Denali

In my time in Denali, I saw more Grizzly Bears than any other animal.  Below are three photos of two different Grizzly Bears that we spotted in the park.  They seemed pretty harmless as long as you kept a distance - not wanting to be disturbed as they ate their blueberries.

Alaska: Moose in Denali

Although Grizzly Bears and Black Bears are both dangerous and can be found in Denali State Park, the female Moose is actually a lot more dangerous and cause many more attacks than bears do in the park.  Below are several photos of these unpredictable female moose.

Alaska: Denali State Park

Denali State Park is a national park that is larger than the entire state of Massachusetts, so to explore Denali, it is impossible to see a decent amount of Denali only on foot.  Below are some photos of the environment as we drive hours to the entrance for hiking of Denali State Park.

Cape Cod: Lobster Rolls

Lobster Rolls are like a religion in Cape Cod in the summer.  They come in all shapes and sizes, but all containing very fresh and juicy lobster.  Below are two photos that symbolize lobster rolls in Cape Cod - the second being one of the well-known fish houses in Provincetown, the Lobster Pot.

Provincetown: Beautiful small beaches

The town of Provincetown is literally surrounded by beaches and seafront, as it lies on the tip of Cape Cod.  Walking a block or two from the main street will bring you to many of the alcoves, like the two photographed below, where there is a small batch of private beach with beautiful homes adjacent.

Cape Cod: Main Street in Provincetown

Provincetown's Main Street could be described as many things, but boring is not one of them.  Below is a photo of a balloon-animal maker in Provincetown's main square.

Provincetown: The tip of Cape Cod

At the very tip of the end of the hook of Cape Cod lies the town of Provincetown - with its vibrant nightlife and restaurants, its excellent beaches and bike paths and the Pilgrim Monument, which commemorates the first landing of the Pilgrims in Provincetown in 1620.

The first photo is of the Pilgrim monument:

The second photo is the view from the top of the Pilgrim monument, where you can see the outline of the tip of Cape Cod:
