Wyoming: Bison on the way to Yellowstone

The drive from Jackson Hole to Yellowstone is longer than you would think.  But luckily, we were distracted by a pack of Bison on the side of the road, with Grand Teton in the background.  After these photos were taken, we were promptly told to back away from the bison by a park ranger.

Wyoming: Cody

Cody, WY was highly recommended to us to visit by several people as well as was listed as a highlight.  We were driving from Jackson Hole to Billings, so we decided to stop in Cody on the way as a stop-point.  Cody was not what we expected.  It was unremarkable, and not a town I'd be recommending to others.  But below are photos of creatures from our visit.

Wyoming: Abandoned home in Grand Teton

There were many old and abandoned homes in Grand Teton.  Below is one of these homes, in such a beautifully dramatic location.

Wyoming: More Pronghorn

This group of Pronghorn got up and close to use.  I love the eyelashes of the female pronghorn in the third photo:

Wyoming: Up close with Black Bear

Through the bushes, you can see the black bear feeding on the berries in the bushes!

Wyoming: The most famous photo in Grand Teton

Apparently the below home is the most photographed site in Grand Teton.

Wyoming: Pronghorn in Grand Teton

We spotted this pack of Pronghorn running in the fields of Grand Teton in the early morning.

Wyoming: Marty Moose

Contrary to popular belief, moose are far more dangerous to people than bears are.  We got up before sunrise to catch this moose drinking and eating by a creek in Grand Teton National Park.

Wyoming: Black Bear in Grand Teton

We spotted a bear in the bushes, and after watching at a safe distance for what seemed like an eternity, he eventually came out of the bushes to show us his friendly face.  Not scary at all!

Wyoming: Wild Horses

On our way home from Grand Teton, we drove the road that went through Grand Teton Village - and spotted these horses on the side of the road.

Wyoming: String Lake in Grand Teton

Off to see the well known Jenny Lake, my husband had the idea to park at the lake above Jenny Lake and walk down to Jenny Lake and around - to increase the trail length.  As it was our first day in Grand Teton, we really underestimated the amount of time it would take and the scale of the map.  The below photo was taken at the beginning of our trek at String Lake - before the blood, sweat and tears that went into our return journey to the summit overlooking Jenny Lake.

Wyoming: Chipmunks of Grand Teton

In Grand Teton National Park, there is a small preserve with great hiking trails called the Laurence Rockefeller Preserve.  While hiking there, we spotted several photographic chipmunks.

Wyoming: National Fish Hatchery

Just outside Jackson Hole, WY is a National Fish Hatchery where you can go in and get a free tour of the fish hatchery.  There's also lovely scenery of the mountains.
